Yeh! I was one of the challenger's picked for Rocking the Watercooler! I am doing the Happy dance Ladies. Thank You Gail.

Hi Everyone!
Last week I learned how to make "Fabric Christmas Balls". There are a lot of beautiful examples on Pinterest, but I learned from a friend on Monday. There were five of us, and we each brought fabric, ribbon, bits and pieces of Christmas items (holly leaves, flowers, birds, etc.). The Dollar Store has lots of items in the Christmas section. We also made it a Christmas social with wine and food of course. There were lots laughs and fun. It basically takes around 1 hour to make these. You do need a glue gun and sticks as you will find lots of glue is essential.
Start with a Large Styrofoam Ball (5.75" or 14.6 cm.) & a fabric piece 20" wide x 30" long. Really wrap the ball tightly and gather at the top. Wrap cord around to tighten, and then wrap some wire around it as well. This will keep the fabric tight. Add a ribbon on top also if you are going to hang your ball. You are now ready to start to glue your items on the top where you have the excess fabric gathered.

Even a Pinecone:
How about Plaid Fabric?
Here is a close up of the top. I added a beautiful little bird:
One last picture - a close up of the bird:
These were a lot of fun to make . I am making one more with the gold fabric and then hanging them at various lengths in my entrance way. They also look great hanging on knobs on doors.
Supplies Used:
Large Styrofoam ball, Florist Wire, Hemp cord, Lots of embellishments (I used Christmas flower picks and cut them up), Material 20"x30", Ribbons or Lace, Glue Gun and Glue Sticks.
Well that is my entry for "Anything Goes", check out the amazing blogs of the Design Team. There are lots of inspiration and ideas that you will find. Thank You Charlotte for being Hostess this week. I loved your card! Until next time --- have an amazing week. Heather :)
Oh my, Heather, you've really created some Christmas keepsakes with those wonderful "Fabric Christmas Balls". I love all the wonderful details one can add. Really, the sky is the limit, isn't it? And yours are amazing. I must get together with my daughter and sister and attempt some of these. Thanks so much for the inspiration and for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, many thanks for your wonderful comments. They are so much fun to make. I have now made a third one and am hanging them at various lengths in a corner in my entrance way. You could even add those small lights that work off batteries. It is also a neat project to do with family. You are right the sky is the limit.
DeleteHeather what perfect timing for your Christmas Ball decorations and the "Anything Goes Challenge" at the Watercooler. These ornaments are simply beautiful. I bet you and the gals had such a "ball" making them too! So pretty with all the ribbon and bits and pieces of trim. I'll have to try this out too! Thanks for sharing.
