Card class at my sister's in May

I recently went on a road trip to the coast and timed it perfectly with Penny's card class on May 14th.  Lots of one on one with Penny as there was only one other person (Ethel), and of course my sister had everything organized.  It was a lot of fun and thought I would show what the finished products looked like.  Of course, for me it was an introduction to the new "in colours" and a sneak peak of course with the new catalogue.   I was truly inspired by the designs of the cards and the colours.

CAS is an acronym for "clean and simple".  Generally speaking that would mean keeping layers to a minimum, leaving a great deal of white space, and having a minimal amount of embellishing or none at all. White space does not have to be white.  It can be whatever colour the main layer of the card happens to be.  Is that as clear as mud?  Well, with Father's Day coming soon, we hope to inspire you with some terrific samples by the Watercooler Artists.

My card today is from an inspiration from my favorite site "Pinterest".  It is "clean and simple" and a manly card as well.  The picture under the feather's is from a recycled card front that I received.  Our Dad passed away a few years ago, and I thought he would love this card and the sentiment inside.

Watercooler Challenges WWC68 - Libby's Colour Challenge

Colour challenges force one to use just the colours in the challenge, plus a neutral which is "free".  It's not always easy to stay within the palette, but that's why we have challenges---to force ourselves to work outside our comfortable "boxes".
I love all the above colours and they are amazing when combined together.  My card is using a few stamps from "Butterfly Basics".  My base card is BlackBerry Bliss, which I love.  I then used Hello Honey for my first layer.   I used Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, Lost Lagoon, and Mossy Meadow inks for the background, with a beautiful butterfly and completed my card with a sentiment in Lost Lagoon.  I also used Wink of Stella on the Butterfly and around the sentiment.  I know my photos aren't the greatest, but the butterfly and sentiment really pop when you see them in person.

As with any sketch challenges, you can change the square shape of the card for a rectangle, you can turn it vertically or horizontally, as long as the finished card is clearly based on the sketch.

 Happy Mother's Day Everyone!    Hope everyone is out there enjoying the sunshine.

My card follows the sketch pretty closely.  The piece that goes over the bottom image could have been a little narrower, but pretty close to the sketch.  I decided to do a little embossing on the "Perfectly Artistic" DSP.  It came out beautifully.  After the poppies were embossed with Cherry Cobbler, I then watercolored them with the same color.  It made them pop out more and went beautifully with the DSP.
